Duke’s Waikiki Restaurant & Bar / Hawaii

Walking into Duke’s is like walking into Polynesia and the history of surfing. The walls are covered with interesting surfing memorabilia, and interesting photos of Waikiki’s beach boys, past and current.

The restaurant has views to die for overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach. The back of the restaurant faces the Pacific Ocean without walls to allow the calm Hawaiian trade winds to blow though the restaurant. The restaurant is on one side, and a cool bar is on the other side. There is no question that this is a very popular meeting spot for locals and tourists alike.

I recommend that the food at Duke’s Waikiki at any time of the day, be missed here at all cost. Dry and unseasoned dishes make it hard to finish anything. The sandwiches I had were skimpy and made with no imagination at all. What this restaurant charges for the quality of food served is not worth what they charge. The service in the restaurant was to also be desired, unfriendly and slow.

On the other hand I highly recommend a visit to the bar. After a day of baking on beautiful Waikiki Beach, Duke’s is a welcome oasis. As the sun sets, and the wonderful live Hawaiian music starts up, that cool one go down just that much better. The service around the bar is fast and friendly. A bit pricy, but hey just sit and dream aloha with that view!
